What are Dermal Fillers?

A gel-like substance injected into areas that are collagen depleted to eliminate wrinkles and give the skin a smoother appearance. Also used for augmentation.

Why does skin age?

Signs of skin aging is the result of two different aging processes- internal as well as external. Internal aging is inevitable. As we age, our skin loses collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, resulting in thinner skin, which sags and forms wrinkles and folds. External aging is due to factors that can be controlled, such as the environment and bad habits. The sun and smoking are two of the largest contributors to premature external aging. Poor diet and excessive alcohol-intake can affect your skin, as well. By moisturizing, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and drinking plenty of water, we can minimize the effects of external aging, but not internal aging.

Juvederm is a long lasting gel that once injected into the skin with an ultra-fine needle, lifts and adds volume to the areas being treated. Wrinkle correction is a quick, in-office procedure with immediate results and no downtime. Common side effects are rare and are usually mild to moderate. After treatment, you may experience some redness and swelling, but this normally lasts less than seven days. Sunbathing and/or cold, outdoor activities should be avoided until any redness or swelling disappears.
